Who is Tanya Mau?

I’m a Russian girl with good drawing skills and irrelevant sense of humour. I had true classic 90’s childhood with Super Mario Bros, rainbow slinkies and ugly sweaters. I’ve started working in design very early, during school years, and since then I haven’t stopped for a day.

Eventually, I became an illustrator/UI designer, add here some extreme perseverance and BOOM! I’m successfully running some online projects. And one of them is an awesome logo maker, Logo Pony, which Iโ€™ve co-founded together with Eugene.

Can You Tell us the Story of Your Business?

Our story begins where all startup ideas are born… at the dinner table with a glass of juice (or wine). Well, it was almost like that. Logopony had a bit different idea from it is now, but it was started it’s way in 2014 and during this years we tried all kind of logo creation approaches that could help new small businesses owners get an affordable quality branding to start and neither solution brought good enough results, was reliable or was easy enough to use…

So we have made Logopony in the effort to fix it! We have a long way to go, a lot of things to do to make this product a lot bigger & better, we are only at the beginning now.

What Has Been Your Biggest Struggle?

I have that big fear I struggle every day, it’s time-wasting. I’m deeply scared to waste time on something I shouldn’t do, that will eventually push back something I should’ve done. Yes, yes “everything you do, will have a purpose” and blah blah, but what if it’s not? In that same category, I’d put times when I waste a lot of time on the design for the project that eventually died or had zero sales, I mark it with black colour paint. Yes, it was an experience, but I would be living happily ever after without it.

What Has Been Your Greatest Achievement?

I count as success when my designs used worldwide. What does it mean? This one time when I released a lot of cool freebie icons, it was really fun to visit some random website and see my icons there. It’s almost like you meet a little peace of you in place when didn’t expect. Even now my local bank is using my piggybank icon inside.

You know this funny feeling when you log in to see your account and you see a piggybank you once have drawn. It’s very tiny things from all the thousands around you, but you know you made this little tiny thing. These days I have some big bundle of “hands with phone mockups” at PSD Hands it’s pretty hands holding smartphone images, for designers to place their app designs inside phone’s screen, and to use for promotion of their apps. I receive a lot of emails from people all over the world who shot tabloids or street ads with my hands. This is really inspiring to continue to do what I do.

Whatโ€™s Your Must-Read Business Book and Why?

I have to admit I can’t recommend anything. You can throw a lot of tomatoes at me. I just prefer to have 3 things when running a business, and it hasn’tย let me down:

1) Trustworthy partner/s

2) Perfect mix of intuition and smart decisions (intuition takes a bigger place)

3) Another perfect mix of “money is not a goal” and “without making money it’s worthless” – Yes this is a hard one, but when you find it, it will be perfect

Finally, Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself?

I’m a big fan of games, cartoons, movies and various tv-series such as Twin Peaks and Scrubs. I’m collecting retro consoles/games, blank notebooks, and also songs from unknown ads or games. I hate wind, lightweight cutlery, and stupid people.
