Who are you?
My name is Wesley Bevins and I am a coffee fanatic and an independent Apple Developer.
Can you tell us the story of your business from idea to where you are now?
It was just a case of wanting to scratch my own itch. Sometimes while working you just get bored and want some entertainment, or need to learn something on the fly. Having faced these problems continuously, I decided to create Aurora which allowed me to play content and then jump back into my workflow without my other content being intrusive. I built the app, put it on the App Store, and after being featured on Product Hunt it really took off.
What has been your biggest failure or struggle?
My biggest struggle has been learning how to effectively get the word out about a product, which I honestly still haven’t totally figured out. However I have learned that one of the best forms of marketing is creating a great product, because a great product will market itself.
And what has been your biggest achievement or success?
My biggest achievement so far has been hitting over 27 different Top 100 App Store charts around the world between my apps, as well as being featured on the front page of Product Hunt and gaining hundreds of upvotes.
What’s your must read business book?
Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance. The stories of Musk’s companies and life show just how extremely hard it is to start and grow successful companies.
Who’s your most inspirational CEO or founder?
Honestly, I can’t pick just one.
If I absolutely had to pick just one, it would be Steve Jobs. Jobs helped lay the foundation for the way the world lives today, and enabled my career as an Apple developer. His vision and leadership were unparalleled and has been one of my greatest personal heroes for as long as I can remember.
However my list of most inspirational founders would also include (in no particular order) Musk and Chris Stoikos of The Beard Club. Musk, because of his vision and ability to lead companies that by all accounts should have failed times over to massive success, while working toward solutions to some of humanity’s most important issues.
Stoikos, because of his creativity and lifestyle. Stoikos is quite possibly the best creative salesman on the planet today, having created viral video after viral video that have led to massive sales and the development of a huge community around a brand in a very short amount of time. That and because he knows how to kill it in business while maintaining a balance between business and the rest of life, placing an emphasis on health. He’s a really cool dude.
And can you tell us something weird or interesting about yourself?
I’ve watched Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles 100 times through, easily. Somebody PLEASE bring it back.
