Who are you?
I am Shyjal Raazi from Kerala the Southernmost state of India. I founded Collect.chat along with my friend and Co-founder, Aslam Abbas.
Can you tell us the story of your business from idea to where you are now?
We realized this problem on one of our friend’s startup. He was getting a good amount of traffic on his website. But he couldn’t convert visitors to customers via static webforms. The solution he found was to have a live chat agent. The agent had to ask the same questions to their visitors day in-day out. This is when I thought – “Why not automate the chat script?”
I made the chatbot in a couple of weeks and deployed on https://www.yatramantra.com and saw a boost of 3x in his conversion. Later we transformed the product to a SaaS solution so that it can be useful to small businesses around the world.
We launched our MVP on product hunt and within a month we have 250+ websites actively using our service.
What has been your biggest failure or struggle?
Building a global SaaS company in India is a real struggle. We have very limited local options for collecting recurring payments in USD. So the only option we had is to incorporate in the US. Thanks to Stripe Atlas for making this process super smooth.
And what has been your biggest achievement or success?
I would rather not answer this question. I do not want to look back to my successes and settle in my life. I am working hard and looking forward to the success in future.
What’s your must read business book?
I read lots of medium publications than books. But I can definitely recommend The Lean Startup by Eric Ries.
Who’s your most inspirational CEO or founder?
Elon Musk; for the good things he stands for and also his multi-tasking abilities. Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos for building such awesome companies out of nothing. Steve jobs for no reason.
And can you tell us something weird or interesting about yourself?
Weird and interesting things happen to me every day. This space is not enough to tell them all 😉
