Henrique Boregio, Cofounder of Shabaam
Who are you?
Hello! I’m Henrique, and I built Shabaam together with my friend Andres Canal (@AndAngC) who worked on the iOS app. I’m a developer by trade and enjoy working building products on the side as a hobby.
Can you tell us the story of your business from idea to where you are now?
The idea for Shabaam came after I saw my girlfriend histerically laughing while watching a guy do a voice-over of a video on Instagram. I figured there had to be an app for that already but after a quick search, I could only find complicated video editors bloated features. I figured the simplest possible app would be to merge GIFs and audio, so I set out to build that as a proof of concept.
In the process of building it, I realised I was spending more and more time creating and sharing the voice-overs I created with friends, so I figured it had the potential to be a really funny and addicting product.
So we launched our first prototype a few months after that and have seen about 50.000 downloads so far, with a steady growth rate.
What has been your biggest failure or struggle?
Being a developer by nature, learning to take time off building a product to work on the marketing/promotional side, has definitely been a learning experience.
And what has been your biggest achievement or success?
It may not be that much of a life changing achievement, but everytime I get an email from users telling me how much they enjoy the app, or read positive reviews online, it makes me happy.
What’s your must read business book?
The Third Wave by Steve Case.
Who’s your most inspirational CEO or founder?
Recently, Elon Musk.
And can you tell us something weird or interesting about yourself?
I’ve never watched Game of Thrones.
