Adam Cellary, Founder of RealEye
Who are you?
I’m a developer with business approach for solving problems. I was studying Robotics on Warsaw University of Technology and I was fascinated with head-tracking solutions using OpenCV. On the other hand I have a UX experience and I’ve created lots of designs & websites in my life.
Can you tell us the story of your business from idea to where you are now?
While I was making some www projects I was always questioning myself if the UX I made is correct and if it’s not confusing users. The only way to test it out is to see what users actually see!
The idea for RealEye was born during long winter night while browsing GitHub. I figured out how to follow user’s eyes with webcam and check what they saw. I remember it was 3AM and I almost fell out of my chair the first time my laptop showed me heat map of points I was actually looking at!
Right now we have repetitive customers from all around the world. Mostly agencies specialized in optimizing conversions but also website owners who want to improve conversions as well.
What has been your biggest failure or struggle?
I was applying for Hotjar XAwards (it’s a competition for Early Stage Startups). The day I saw that the judges signed up to test the product – the service was not working properly and it was impossible to create a eye-tracking study. It was so funny because it was the only time the server had some issues and as it usually happens – it was the worst moment of all…
And what has been your biggest achievement or success?
RealEye won Hotjar XAwards Tech achievement! They are always many small (but very satisfying) successes on the road, like first paying customers, first highest subscription plan bought etc. I think the fact that RealEye MVP proved valuable to it’s early users is the biggest success.
What’s your must read business book?
“Thinking, Fast and Slow”, Daniel Kahneman
Who’s your most inspirational CEO or founder?
Not in all aspects, but I’d go for Elon Musk
And can you tell us something weird or interesting about yourself?
I’m getting sucked into Drone Racing FPV recently and each of my drone’s have it’s own name ;) I hope it’s normal
